QUALIFICATIONS
I have extensive and broad volunteer experience in IEEE, having
served in almost all segments of IEEE operations, namely, conferences,
publications, awards, standards, membership, governance, strategic
planning, marketing, finance (audit).
I am a very dedicated volunteer who does not hesitate to ask the
hard questions. During my 4 years of service at the IEEE BoD I have
been an active, participative and extremely diligent (and often
praised for this) Board member.
I have proven leadership skills demonstrated by my successful tenure
as Society President as well as my work chairing committees and
boards throughout my volunteer career. I have always been able to
attract new talent, from different parts of the world, to work on
my teams and I am extremely careful and thoughtful in making appointments.
In my professional career I also have diversified experience, having
worked in industry, government and academia.
I have first hand experience in dealing with different cultures,
which is essential in a truly global IEEE. I have held visiting
appointments in industry and academia in: United States (UCLA, Rutgers
Univ. and AT&T Bell Labs). France (Telecom Paris), Germany (NEC
Europe Labs.), Italy (CSELT-Telecom Italia and Politecnico di Torino),
Canada (Univ. of Toronto) and China (Hong Kong Univ. of Science
and Technology).
The global IEEE membership has in the past supported my ideas and
leadership. In my volunteer career I have won 5 membership elections,
running against candidates from different Regions, including the
IEEE-wide election for VP-TA.
